Widgets
Widgets are flexible little “buckets” you can put into your sidebar/footbar to add content, add menus, and provide additional functionality to your visitors.
Concepts to understand:
Widget Areas – page content areas where your widgets appear.
Widget Management – add, remove, and arrange your widgets in the Customizer.
BU Text Widget – the ultimate flexibility; control content in a widget area down to the individual section or page level.
How to use:
- Use the Widget settings in the Customizer to specify what widgets you are using, and in what widget area they appear
- Widget-enabled areas are consistent for the basic Responsive Framework; there may be additional widget areas for custom themes
- Widgets appear on all pages that use the “default” template
- Other templates (Profiles, News, etc.) may have separate widget areas so the widget content on pages using alternate templates may differ from the default behavior
Review:
Walk through the Customizer to show widgets on the practice site. Make note of BU Text Widget called “Also See” in the sidebar. Open the Slideshow training page in the WP editor and look at content in the BU Text: Also See widget. Note options to hide title or include on child pages.
Hands-On:
- Add another BU Text Widget for “Announcements”
