Versions
Create alternate versions of existing content to edit/review it without publishing your changes immediately.
Concepts to understand:
Published Content – Published content in WordPress is updated immediately when you edit and save changes.
Alternate Version – An alternate version of a published page, for purposes of editing and review. When an alternative version is published, it replaces the original page.
How to use:
- From WP Dashboard, access Pages > All Pages list
- Find the page you want to create an alternate version of
- Click the “Create Clone” link from the page list
- You now have a clone of the page. When the clone is published, it will replace the original version of the page.
- The WP user interface clearly marks pages that are alternate versions (see blue highlighting in interface).
Review:
Review page listings and indicate alternate versions indicator row. Open an alternate version and view notifications in the interface.
Hands-On:
- Create an alternate version of a page, make edits, save the version.
- Go back to the page later and publish the alternate version. Browse to page to see original replaced with the alternate.
