Embedding


You can embed content into WordPress in a number of ways. Some of that content is managed within WordPress, and some of it will be embedded from other sources.

Concepts to understand:

Video Embeds – WordPress is not a streaming video delivery platform. BU uses BUniverse, which is a BU-specific front-end to YouTube. Video content should be uploaded to BUniverse/YouTube, and embedded from there on your BU WordPress site.

Shortcodes – Shortcodes are special tags in WordPress that are used to embed content or provide special functionality. They work similarly to HTML tags, but use [square brackets] to denote the tags.

How to use:

  • For video embeds, upload the video to BUniverse (which goes to YouTube), or upload to YouTube directly
  • Retrieve the “embed” link (from YouTube or BUniverse)
  • Paste the embed code into your WordPress page where you want the video to appear
  • For audio embeds, use the link in the top of the sidebar menu on this page for further instructions on TechWeb.

Review:

Review the shortcodes on the Faculty home page, which indicates a function to call profiles and specifies which profiles and the format.

Hands-On:

  • Add expanding/collapsing section on a page (content to come)
  • And/or add a BU Map to the Contact Us page.
  • And/or add a video
